Prepper lighting review – Vont survival lighting kit

Several weeks ago, Vont Lighting reached out to me to do a review. I said I’d love to, as I’m always excited to review new prepper/survival gear and equipment.

For those of you who are not familiar with Vont, Vont was started several years ago as a bike headlight company. Their bike lights were popular enough that Vont was named “Amazon’s Best Bike Light.” Then over the past year or so, Vont took it a step further, and began making lights for camping and survival situations. Now, enter your’s truly and this review! Editor’s note: Vont has also begun to making lighting for home decor. So be sure to check out their website.

Vont was kind enough to send me their Ultimate Survival Kit. This kit consists of 2-pack spark headlamps, 2-pack led camping lanterns, and 2-pack blaze flashlights. I like the idea of having 2 of each item, either as a backup for you (the whole 2 is one and one is none adage. ) or as a second set for a family/group member.

Vont Spark LED Headlamp

The headlamp has 3 LEDs, putting out 200 lumens. Requiring 3 AAA batteries, (these are included with the lamp) you can get around 90 hours of use, depending upon which setting you use. Speaking of settings, these headlamps have 7 settings, which can be changed with the simple push of a button. The settings are Low/Medium/High/Strobe (Main Light) and Low/SOS/Strobe (Side Lights). There is also a red light setting if your situation requires a bit more discretion.

The band on the headlamp is adjustable, though the feature I found most useful was the ability to tilt the light to a 45° degree angle. You can adjust the light without having to move your neck or head. I found this to be pretty handy in many situations.

The headlamp is listed as waterproof, although I did not dunk it underwater. But you should be able to wear these in any type of weather or environment without worry. They are also listed as “drop resistant”, and I did drop these on the outside concrete from shoulder height several times. No damage or problems.

Vont LED Camping Lantern

The Survival kit also included two collapsible camping lanterns. Like the headlamp, these require 6 AAA batteries (also included), and should last around 90 hours of use. This of depends upon what type of batteries you use. (For more on different types of batteries in survival settings, click the link here.)

Putting out about 140 lumens, these handy little lanterns are great for illuminating small rooms, tents, etc. To turn it on, simply pull it up from its base. The lantern slides up, providing 360 degree light. The metal handles make it easy to attach it or hang it to something like a tree branch or roof of the tent.

This lantern is lightweight, coming in at about 10 oz. When collapsed, it is under 5 inches tall, and when fully extended, it stands a little over 7 inches tall. See the picture  below.

Blaze LED Flashlight

The flashlight puts out 200 lumens from 3 AAA batteries. Vont includes batteries with these flashlights. The 5 settings of this flashlight are low, medium, high, SOS, and strobe, and the battery life should last around 9 hours depending upon the setting you use. Vont also includes a battery cover if you want to use the rechargeable 18650 battery.

Also included is a nice carry case that you can easily feed through your belt. I thought this was a nice feature making transporting the flashlight easier, and quickly accessible.

The flashlight has an adjustable focus. So if you need a broad beam or focused light in one area, this flashlight can do both.

This flashlight is about 5.5 inches long, and weighs a little over 5 oz. The grip is a textured handle, and I found to be comfortable in my hand. Like the headlamp, it is water resistant and “drop resistant”. I also dropped it on concrete from shoulder height a few times. No problems or issues for me.

Final Thoughts

My primary lighting preps include a lot of rechargeable lights. I have several rechargeable packs, and some portable solar panels to recharge them. However, I strongly believe in having a backup plan, and these certainly fit the bill. Two is one, and one is none as they say, and it is reassuring to have other options.

You can purchase all of these together in the kit, (linked here). However, they are also sold separately if you find that you just need some of them.

Whether you need some emergency lighting for your preparedness plan, lights for your bicycles, or just lighting options for your home or office, I’d encourage you to check out Vont.
